Re-Naming The Half Marathon
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 03:16pm
I have long thought that calling a 13.1 mile race a ‘half’ was a great disservice to the distance. This is mostly because I enjoy running half marathons and intend to run many more of them. The same cannot be said for the full marathon. I did not enjoy it, and I do not intend to run many more of them... that’s what I meant when I said that the same cannot be said for the full mar[...]

Mini Contractions(?), Dreams and Teddy Bears
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 08:32am
Last night as I was sitting on the couch I was again hit with some lower abdomen pain type things. I looked in the pregnancy books I have and these could be a sign of early labor. So that's cool. I don't know why I only get them at one time of the day when sitting in one position but there they are. Jason kept his hand on my belly and said he thought it was getting harder as I would get [...]

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 12:44am
Day 380 chronicling a joggling streak which will last at least 1001 days in a row. Summary: I’m in “take it easy” mode. The Philadelphia marathon is over and there aren’t any real races coming up for a while. I may do the Frozen Otter 32 miler in January so I’ll soon have to start doing some training for that. Not sure how much of it I’[...]

Not the Taper I Planned
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 02:05pm
This is my final week before the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, the time that would typically be a taper week. While tapering does have the power to make people go a little mad with the reduced mileage and extra time lounging around, my taper isn’t going how I had planned. I ran on Sunday, my final longish run before the race. I felt a little niggl[...]

Thought Maybe. Then Not So Much.
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 09:07am
Last night I was sitting on the couch and Lucy was doing her usual night time dance routine and all of a sudden I was all, "WHOA, ouch."I was thinking this is it. This is labor. It's going to happen tonight. Yeah. No. Not so much labor I guess as her just moving around and hitting me in some bad places that caused a lot of pain. What the hell, how am I supposed to know what a contra[...]

Long Distance Joggling Will Help You Live Longer
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 12:44am
While I’ve seen some studies that suggest running marathons can damage your heart (temporarily), there is lots of support that regular exercise has significant, positive health benefits. But according to this study published in the journal Circulation, physical exercise like marathon training can actually keep you younger. In the study, they analyzed the blood of endurance athletes. Sc[...]

Elias to step down from USATF, release, note by Larry Eder
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 at 07:11pm
Jim Elias spent the last eleven years at USA Track & Field. His roles have been CFO, Chief Operating officer, and recently, Managing Director of Business Affairs. Eleven years ago, USA Track & Field was in a world of hurt. Some had made the argument, at the time, that the easier route might have been bankruptcy. Former CEO Craig Masback's weapon to fix USATF was Jim Elias. What did[...]

Progress Lacking but an End in Sight
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 at 01:45pm
Well. I'm not surprised but I'm no farther along than I was 2 weeks ago. Still only 1cm dilated and nothing else is happening down there. No softening, no head moving down anywhere, no effacing. I have literally had 0 contractions. I mean nothing. No braxton hicks, nothing.So. Yeah. But we have a plan now and it helps to have that at least in my head. We go back to the doctor on Friday fo[...]
